The Volkswagen Caddy
There have been many versions of the Volkswagen Caddy since its origin in 1979. Initially introduced as a coupe utility vehicle, it has evolved into its now more commonly known and made design as a panel van.
There have been four generations of the VW Caddy. Generation one was the utility coupe, also known as the ‘Rabbit Pickup’ in the United States. It was a derivative of the Volkswagen Golf and built on the same platform as it. In 1995 the Caddy was redesigned into its second generation as a Typ 9K, or Volkswagen Polo Caddy: a lightweight van. This was released around the same time as the facelifted utility vehicle; the Typ 9U, improving on the original ute’s design. The third generation was released in 2004 with the Typ 2K Caddy panel van, and then improved on with a very similar generation four in 2015. Generation 3 and 4 models have included the Caddy Panel, Life, Maxi, Life Tramper, and 4motion. Volkswagen has also announced the impending release of the Caddy 5 to come at the end of 2020.
